ABOUT DONNIE RAY BANKS
Donnie Ray Banks is a filmmaker from Morganton, NC living in NYC. They earned their MFA in Film Production from Full Sail University, where they wrote and pitched the script for their class’ thesis film, Lunch Date. They directed a 50-person crew to complete the film.
Donnie also earned their BA in Film Studies from Columbia University in NYC and an AFA in Drama from Western Piedmont Community College in their hometown. Donnie is a proud Army veteran. They served in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2003 to 2004. They have over ten years of experience in entertainment, where they have directed four short films, four stage plays, and written six short films and one feature that have been produced.
They have produced, edited, script supervised, and dolly gripped on several other projects and acted in over thirty-five projects ranging from short and feature films to plays, commercials, and video games.
The first short they directed and co-wrote, All Made Up, won three awards at the 2016 Asheville 48 Hr Film Project, including an Audience Favorite award. Their adapted feature screenplay was selected as a semi-finalst in the 2023 Great American Script Contest. Their original short screenplay Homecoming was selected for the 2017 Queer Hippo International Film Festival and the 2023 New York City Reel Film Festival. Lunch Date was featured in the Winter Film Awards Festival in NYC in 2018 and an NYC Short Filmmakers Showcase at New Plaza Cinema in 2024. Donnie is the youngest of a woman called Hank.

Motor Transport Operator, Jan 2001 – Apr 2005
Drove various vehicles, including Humvees, 5 Ton trucks, and Tractor Trailers, in all types of conditions, on all types of terrain, carrying all types of loads. Training in marksmanship, leadership, teamwork, land navigation, guerilla warfare, and basic first aid. Deployed to Iraq 2003-2004 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Conducted over 75 combat and humanitarian missions.
